The 5 Best Studios for Violin Lessons in Melbourne That Help Students Play Beyond the Basics
Every violinist was first a beginner. I learned that quickly the first time I tried to play one clean note.
What I hoped would sound elegant came out more like a squeaky door asking for help. I honestly wondered if the violin was made just to test people’s patience.
But after looking into some talented teachers and music venues around the city, I realized learning it doesn’t have to feel so intimidating.
Whether you’re starting a creative hobby, finding a patient teacher for your child, or preparing for serious exams, these studios for violin lessons in Melbourne can help you find your rhythm!
How much does a violin lesson cost in Melbourne?
Violin lessons in Melbourne typically range from $40 to $120 per hour, depending on the instructor’s background and your current playing level.
1. MELBOURNE VIOLIN ACADEMY

Website: https://www.melbourneviolinacademy.com.au/
Address: Not listed
Contact: [email protected]
Hours: Not listed
MELBOURNE VIOLIN ACADEMY is definitely not the place for casual learners who just want to play around. The lessons focus on tiny technical details, especially posture, bowing, and building a strong foundation.
A close friend of mine came here to refine her technique, and the improvement in her playing was honestly impressive!
I’d say the studio works best for students who are really motivated, whether they’re kids, working professionals, or even retirees. The teaching style is strict, but that’s also what makes it effective.
The only thing to watch out for is the policy. Deposits and purchases are completely non-refundable, so you’ll want to be sure before signing up.

2. Albert Salt Violin & Piano Lessons

Website: https://albertsaltviolinlessons.com/
Address: 15 Tintern Ave, Toorak
Contact: 0433042255
Hours: Monday – Sunday, 10am to 6pm
Albert Salt’s studio is one of those places I’d recommend if you want proper violin or piano tuning and playing lessons without getting lost in a big music academy.
If you’re preparing for exams, they cover a pretty wide range, from early AMEB grades to VCE units and even diplomas. That’s especially helpful because you can keep learning with the same teacher as your pieces get more advanced.
I also like that the pricing is listed clearly. No awkward back-and-forth just to find out what lessons cost.
Just keep in mind that Albert runs the studio himself, so scheduling might be a little tighter than with a larger music school.
Ensures that each lesson is engaging yet challenging
Albert’s a fantastic teacher. He’s very friendly and responds to messages promptly. He ensures that each lesson is engaging yet challenging, particularly when trying to teach a 12 yr old who has no violin experience whatsoever. The progress I’ve seen in my child is amazing. I would highly recommend Albert to any parent who is looking for a violin tutor for their child or even for themselves.

A wonderful teacher
Both my son (6) and daughter (8) are learning violin and piano with Albert and they absolutely love their lessons. He is so patient and kind, which makes such a difference at this age, and he explains things in a way that’s easy for them to understand. I’m amazed at how much progress they’ve made, but more importantly, they’re excited about music and look forward to every lesson. We feel very lucky to have found such a wonderful teacher!

3. Violin Lesson ( Suzuki, AMEB )

Address: Camberwell, Victoria, 3124

Hours: Mon-Fri: 10am – 8pm, Sunday: 10am – 5pm
Led by Afrooz Amini’s, the lessons here at Violin Lesson (Suzuki, AMEB) feel calm, patient, and just right for young learners who need gentle guidance.
I’d recommend her classes if you like the Suzuki method; it’s a lovely way for children to learn music naturally, especially when they’re still building confidence.
I actually watched her help a kid with basic finger placements, and I loved how she didn’t rush the process. She explained things softly and waited when the student struggled.
She also prepares students for the local exam syllabus and music theory, so it’s not just casual learning.
The late weekday hours are super handy for school schedules, too.
One thing to note, though: Afrooz teaches solo, meaning you’ll have to work around her calendar.
Warm and encouraging

4. THE MUSIC GYM

Website: https://themusicgym.com.au/
Address: Galleria Shop E09, 348 Little Collins Street
Contact: 0401 168 742
Hours: Monday to Thursday: 45-minute sessions
Admittedly, I wasn’t sure if violin lessons were something I’d stick with, especially since buying an instrument upfront felt like a big commitment. But that worry went out the window when I found out THE MUSIC GYM lets you use violins right on the premises!
That makes it so much easier for beginners who are just testing the musical waters. You don’t have to bring your own gear from work or school. The 45-minute private sessions here also feel just right, not too short, not too long.
I’d come back for the option to mix private lessons with group sessions. It makes learning less intimidating, especially if you want to meet other local musicians.
However, their slots can be tougher to book since they have fewer violin instructors than piano teachers.
5. ABC Music Group

Website: https://www.abcmusicgroup.com.au/
Address: PO Box 468 East
Contact: 0403 493 861
Hours: Monday – Friday, 10am to 4pm
ABC Music Group is a lifesaver for parents who can’t squeeze another after-school trip into the day. Instead of making kids rush across town, they bring violin lessons right into local primary schools.
What I like most is how they handle the whole programme, from timetables to fees, without adding extra work for the staff.
The lessons aren’t just about learning notes, either. Their group ensemble bands give kids a chance to play with others, which is great for building teamwork and confidence.
They also prepare students for AMEB exams, so it’s not all casual strumming and bowing.
That said, ABC Music Group isn’t perfect. Some families mentioned a lack of consistent feedback regarding individual progress, and the annual performances can feel a bit brief.
My daughter loves the classes
Megan took over as my 11yr daughter’s violin teacher this year. The lessons started off in person during school time but most of the year they have been via zoom. Luckily they got to know each other before home schooling started. Zoom violin lesson has been a weekly highlight. My daughter loves the classes. They are serious but fun too. I have found Megan to be very professional and a great communicator. Thank you Megan.
