The 5 Best Gynaecologists in Melbourne You’ll Actually Feel Comfortable With

Qualifications and Credentials: Are they fully certified as a specialist? Do they have recognised training in obstetrics and gynaecology?

Range of Services: We checked what conditions and treatments they cover. Do they focus mainly on general women’s health? Do they offer fertility support and pregnancy care?

Patient Care: How do they treat their patients? Do they listen carefully? Do they explain things in plain language? Do they make their patients feel comfortable?

Wait Times and Availability: We also considered how long patients have to wait for an appointment and how easy it is to get follow-ups.

Finding the right gynaecologist isn’t exactly the kind of task people get excited about until it suddenly becomes important.

Reproductive health conversations can spill into bigger life discussions. It can spill into relationships, family planning, and even the occasional moment that feels like it borders on marriage counselling territory. It’s all connected, whether we like it or not.

So instead of sending you down a rabbit hole of conflicting opinions, we’ve taken a closer look at some of the best gynaecologists in Melbourne. Here are the ones who know the field inside out, but also make you feel heard and comfortable!

How much does a gynaecology appointment cost in Melbourne?

A gynaecology appointment in Melbourne usually costs about AUD $195–$400 for an initial private consultation. Many specialists charge around AUD $300–$525 before Medicare rebates. Follow-ups are generally cheaper, often around AUD $150–$350.

One thing that immediately stood out to us about Melbourne Mothers is its continuity. This isn’t one of those clinics where you feel like you’re being passed along a mix of specialists.

Dr Vinay Rane leads a dual-trained model. That way, patients often deal with the same doctor across both obstetric and gynaecological care. This makes a big difference for conditions that overlap.

From what we’ve heard, his team is great with minimally invasive, laparoscopic surgery. Someone shared that, besides a successful surgery, she was impressed with how quickly things moved. Appointment within a week, surgery within another.

We also noticed great feedback when it comes to the quality of care. People felt reassured all the time.

Other fertility clinics go straight toward in-vitro fertilisation (IVF), but here it’s different. They look at investigations and lifestyle first.

However, their communication can still be improved. Some reported issues with the lack of follow-up and scheduling.

Pros

  • Continuity of care
  • Advanced laparoscopic expertise
  • Fast response time for urgent cases
  • Strong bedside manner
  • Conservative fertility approach

Cons

  • Inconsistent administrative follow-through

Simply the best gynaecologist around

“Prof Vinay Rane, simply the best gynaecologist around. Professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly compassionate. I felt heard, supported, and completely confident in the care I received. Highly recommend.”

He knows his stuff and was incredibly reassuring

“Dr Vinay Rane squeezed me in on short notice after a health scare and he couldn’t have been more supportive and accommodating. He knows his stuff and was incredibly reassuring at a time it was needed most. Dr Vinay went the extra mile to call up Women’s Ultrasound Melbourne on my behalf and arrange an immediate scan following my appointment. A big thank you to Melbourne Mothers and WUME for their professional care and advice during a difficult time.”

Phone: +61 3 9329 6668
Business hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 8 AM – 5 PM
  • Friday: 8 AM – 4 PM
  • Saturday to Sunday: Closed

Website

When looking for a gynaecologist, it just makes sense to pick someone who can really understand you. That’s what OGCG offers! They’re a tight-knit group of five female specialists who operate independently but share responsibility for on-call care.

We saw how seriously they take patient concerns, especially with conditions that are often dismissed elsewhere.

One patient described her journey from suspected endometriosis through to surgery and diagnosis. She loved how she felt genuinely listened to.

Several people also pointed out that appointments don’t feel rushed. There’s also always an effort to make sure patients fully understand what’s going on before leaving.

Where OCGC really pulls ahead, though, is in high-risk pregnancy management and coordinated care. Their collaboration allows patients to meet multiple obstetricians in the later stages of pregnancy.

If we’re going to nitpick, the downside is that they’re closed on weekends. For urgent concerns, that could be inconvenient.

Pros

  • Female-only specialist team
  • Expert in complex gynaecology cases
  • Patients feel genuinely heard
  • High standard of obstetric care
  • Collaborative care model
  • Continuity
  • Efficient admin

Cons

  • No weekend availability

An amazing centre for women

“OGCG is an amazing centre for women. I cannot recommend highly enough the level of excellent professionalism and support you receive. The girls at reception are exceptional in their lovely manner &  efficiency. I attended a gynaecology health follow-up with Dr Natalia Khomko, and I was so happy with her, I trusted her with my 2 pregnancies. She was thorough and proactive as an obstetrician during both our pregnancy journeys and helped us deliver our healthy baby girls in 2020 and 2024. Dr Harvinder Kaur has effectively helped me manage my endometriosis. Both Dr Khomko and Dr Kaur are clinically excellent, supportive and kind.”

She has been amazing from the start

“A friend referred Dr Leah for the birth of my first child. She has been amazing from the start, caring, informative and reassuring. Her expertise guided me through complex pregnancies to welcome two beautiful baby boys. Since then, she has addressed urgent gynaecology issues that were impacting my quality of life. Thank you, Dr Leah!”

3. Grow Obstetrics

Address: 320 Victoria Parade, East Melbourne

Phone: +61 3 9126 1777
Business hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 9 AM – 4 PM
  • Friday: 9 AM – 1 PM
  • Saturday to Sunday: Closed

Website

What’s impressive about Grow Obstetrics is how they don’t treat gynaecology as a separate, one-off visit. Instead, it’s embedded into a longer-term care model.

That’s good news to patients dealing with ongoing conditions where seeing the same doctor over time actually changes outcomes, not just comfort levels.

They cover menstrual disorders, vulval conditions, surgical interventions, and more. It’s not unusual to see clinics offer these services, but what’s great is that the same team handling pregnancy care is also involved in these areas.

Having ultrasounds done during the same appointment also streamlines the process. It avoids bouncing between different providers and just makes everything more convenient.

However, we heard about an issue with increasing wait times later in pregnancy. While that’s more on the obstetrics side, we think it still reflects how the clinic operates overall.

Pros

  • Continuity of care
  • Female-only specialist team
  • Excellent communication
  • Integrated women’s health services
  • In-room ultrasounds

Cons

  • Increasing wait times

If you are looking for a trustworthy gynaecologist or obstetrician, look no further!

“I highly recommend Dr Maryam Ebrahimi! She recently performed a diagnostic laparoscopy and hysteroscopy on me, found and excised endometriosis. The surgery and recovery have been flawless, and there is almost no scarring! Dr Ebrahimi is friendly, professional, kind and extremely knowledgeable. If you are looking for a trustworthy gynaecologist or obstetrician, look no further!”

She worked with the utmost care towards me

“I could not recommend Dr Maryam Ebrahimi more highly. She provided the best consultation and support during my pregnancy and delivered my first baby through C-section(of my choice )last Monday. Every single time I have had Maryam, she has been professional, worked with the utmost care towards me, and always made sure that I understood every option before taking that next turn. If anyone is seeking an obstetrician or gynaecologist in Melbourne, then you cannot go past Dr Maryam”

4. Dr Karen Paice

Address: 145 Victoria Parade, Fitzroy

Phone: +61 3 9419 5757
Business hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM
  • Saturday to Sunday: Closed

Website

Dr Karen Paice’s biggest advantage is her background. She trained at major Melbourne institutions, and it shows in her clinical focus.

She leans heavily into reproductive endocrinology. This means conditions like PCOS, ovulation disorders, and fertility challenges are very much her territory. It puts her a step ahead of general gynaecologists who may treat these but don’t specialise in them.

We loved that she can guide a patient from fertility investigations all the way through pregnancy and delivery. It’s great for those dealing with chronic reproductive issues because it removes the need to constantly retell your medical history to new doctors.

Based on our interviews, patients mentioned that Dr Paice’s personal touch helped them a lot. Since she’s also a mother, they get both technical expertise and relatability.

That said, there was a report of a delayed appointment. It seems to be a one-time thing, but still worth noting you value punctuality very much.

Pros

  • Expert in complex gynaecology cases
  • Continuity
  • Clear and reassuring
  • Strong bedside manner
  • Personal touch
  • High level of patient trust

Cons

  • A report about a delayed appointment

An exceptional gynaecologist and obstetrician

“Dr Karen Paice is an exceptional gynaecologist and obstetrician. I had my entire pregnancy care with her and delivered my baby at St Vincent’s Private Hospital in Melbourne under her supervision. From the very first appointment until delivery, she was professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly reassuring. She took the time to explain everything clearly, answered all my questions patiently, and made me feel completely comfortable throughout my pregnancy journey…”

Hermita Matadeen, Google review

I will forever be indebted to Karen for her compassion

“Writing under a pseudonym to protect my identity, as I am in the medical profession myself. Karen has safely seen me through infertility treatment, including a laparoscopy, clomid and eventually IVF. She then cared for me during both of my pregnancies, including one which developed some complications. She has subsequently become my gynaecologist and has inserted an IUD for me. I will forever be indebted to Karen for her compassion, high-quality care and particularly for staying with me for hours into the early hours after I became unwell post-delivering my first baby, when her care essentially saved my life. Karen has a fantastic sense of humour, and I’ve genuinely enjoyed our journey together and am rather sad not to be seeing her regularly now.”

5. Dr Gopalan Poovalingam – Melbourne Gynaecology

Address: Melbourne Gynaecology, 1/64-66 Keilor Rd, Essendon North

Phone: +61 3 9379 5106
Business hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 9 AM – 4 PM
  • Saturday to Sunday: Closed

Website

Dr Gopalan Poovalingam is one of the most mentioned gynaecologists when we asked around. Mostly, it’s because of two things: getting the diagnosis right and helping patients recover faster after surgery.

He specialises in minimally invasive procedures and uses the Rapid Recovery After Gynaecolgical Surgery (RRGS) approach. This means smaller cuts, fewer complications, and much quicker recovery times.

A lot of patients were back home within 24 hours and got back to normal life much sooner than expected.

Patients are also listened to here. A patient mentioned a decade of dismissed symptoms before finally being taken seriously.

Explanations were clear and concerns were validated with Dr Poovalingam. There was also a collaboration when it comes to decision-making.

That eventually led to a confirmed diagnosis of stage 2 endometriosis. It was something that had been missed for years elsewhere.

He’s very in demand, though. Some patients mentioned longer wait times for non-urgent appointments.

Pros

  • Faster recovery from surgery
  • Handles complex cases well
  • Accurate diagnosis
  • Great communication
  • Strong support team

Cons

  • Long wait times

His professionalism and calm manner made the entire experience seamless

“I had an exceptionally positive experience at Dr G’s Clinic. Dr G (Dr Gopalan Poovalingam) was extremely kind, compassionate, and reassuring throughout my visit. He helped remove all the anxiety I had around the situation and took the time to explain the procedure clearly, including what to expect at every stage. His professionalism and calm manner made the entire experience seamless—I truly couldn’t fault a thing. The reception staff were equally wonderful…”

Lynette Dlima, Google review

Dr G is a truly amazing gynaecologist

“Dr G is a truly amazing gynaecologist. My girlfriend recommended him to me, and I’m forever grateful to her. From my very first appointment, through to my operation and the aftercare, I have felt completely comfortable and supported. The availability to call the surgery with any questions after my operation was incredibly reassuring.”
